ViDA Is Coming! Are You Ready for the EU’s Digital Tax Reporting Initiative?

The current EU VAT system is complex, inconsistent and inefficient. Digitalization could finally put an end to cumbersome administrative procedures, unmanageable reporting obligations and tax fraud. That's why the EU Commission launched the VAT in the Digital Age (ViDA) initiative in 2022 and developed an action plan for fair taxation. 
However, the ViDA initiative still rests on three shaky pillars and cannot be implemented in its current form. The latest decision was blocked by Estonia on May 14 at the Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) of the EU. The Belgian presidency of the Council of the EU is expected to try to reach an agreement with Estonia before the next ECOFIN on June 21. But what happens after that?
